5th Grade

In 5th grade, students work towards becoming independent critical thinkers. Teachers guide students at the beginning of the year on life skills, including organizational techniques and study habits. Throughout the year, teachers gradually transfer more responsibility to their students in preparation for middle school. Students are expected to complete more independent work, long-term assignments, and group projects. Our approach to education continues to be:
  • Encouraging students to become independent problem solvers who achieve growth academically and spiritually.
  • Emphasizing time management, organizational techniques, and study habits.
  • Enabling students to develop their God-given gifts to reach their fullest potential.
We continue to differentiate assignments within the classroom and design collaborative projects.  Students take benchmark assessments three times a year through iReady and AimswebPlus. Teachers administer the  Cognitive Abilities Test (CoGat) every spring.  Results are used internally to inform instruction and create flexible group placement, and data for the middle school honors class consideration.  In addition, we accommodate diverse learning styles and honor IEPs, 504 plans, and special needs.
