Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the School of St. Mary. We can’t wait to welcome you to the Crusader Family!

Applicants are welcome at any grade level at any time. Admissions are determined both by capacity availability and a comprehensive review of the student’s academic standing (for kindergarten - 8th-grade applications). Applicants may also be assessed by the SOSM student services team to determine their academic fit within our program.

We are looking for…
  • Children who meet social and academic expectations as determined by an admissions committee.
  • Parents with a strong commitment to the mission and culture of our school and who want to make a long-term commitment.
NOTE: While submitting an application by December 1 is recommended for new SOSM families, we welcome applications throughout the year. Please contact the Director of Admissions, Mandy Castle, with any questions.

Application Consideration

The School of St. Mary will consider the following factors in determining priority for admission:

  3. Families who are committed to continuing their child's education at SOSM through 8th grade.

Transfer Students

Based on capacity availability, we accept transfer students at any time from other Catholic or public schools. Applicants must be in good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing in their current school for their admission to be considered. Student consideration requires completing the inquiry form, including submission of school transcripts, standardized test scores, and any IEP or 504 plans. Should space be available in the requested class, the student will be invited for a shadow day and formal assessment. In-person or virtual tours are available at any time. Request a tour here

Probationary Period

All new and transfer students to the School of St. Mary will be admitted on academic and disciplinary probation for their first year of attendance.

Admission of any child depends on the agreement that parents or legal guardians and the child agree to abide by the policies, rules, and regulations of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the School of St. Mary.
