The School of St. Mary is nurturing servant leaders who have a heart for their community and the desire and skills to lead the way in helping the less fortunate in our community.
Altar Servers
Altar Servers form a vital part of the church, and every parish is enriched through their dedication and service. Students in 4th - 8th grades are encouraged to engage in the celebration of the Eucharist at our parish by serving as Altar Servers. Students will have the opportunity to lead at weekly school Masses and serve the larger parish community at Sunday Mass. Please contact Fr. Radley Alcantara at ralcantara@churchofstmary.org or (847) 582-2517 or the Parish Center Office at (847) 234-0205 to inquire about the next altar server training.

Student Council & NJHS Bake Sale

Our Student Council and National Junior Honor Society students will host a bake sale on December 4th and 5th to raise funds for our Advent initiative: sponsoring a Faraja Primary School student in Tanzania. All proceeds support our $1,500 goal to provide Naomi with a full year of education, medical care, and mobility support. This project invites our students to live out the spirit of Advent through meaningful, global service.
Service Projects
Students are encouraged to plan and execute service projects based on their interests and passions. We also have several traditional projects and organizations that we work with on a regular basis. Some past projects:
Roberti House Thanksgiving Basket Program Every November, each homeroom collects food items to provide the Roberti Community House in Waukegan with Thanksgiving Meals.
Food Drives Food drives are regularly held for our parish soup kitchen as well as for Fill a Heart for Kids, a local agency serving foster youth.
Coat Drive During Catholic Schools Week 2022, we collected winter coats and outerwear for the Our Most Blessed Trinity Soup Kitchen.
School Supply Drive At the end of each school year, gently used school supplies that are no longer needed are collected and donated to the Roberti Community House to use for their summer programming.
Bake Sale for Ukraine 6th-grade students planned and organized a bake sale to raise funds to be sent to Catholic Relief Services in the Ukraine.
Service Requirements
Students are required to complete a service project in both 7th and 8th grade for Confirmation and 10 hours of service to be considered for the National Junior Honors Society (NJHS). There is no formal requirement for service hours for other students.
