Your Next Four Years

The School of St. Mary was the start of your educational journey. Now, it's time to plan the next four years. While the School of St. Mary will assist you when possible, we do not have a dedicated high school counselor. Parents must lead the search and handle the high school registration process. 

Lake Forest High School

  • Entrance Exam: Pre-ACT8 is required and will be offered on October 5th and October 19th at the East Campus (1285 N. McKinley). Registration was required by September 13th; see letter from LFHS. Pre-ACT8 has been postponed. Please see the letter from LFHS.
  • Scout Experience - January 22, 2025 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
  • Registration: TBA
  • Mid-February 2025: Individual appointments with LFHS counselors. Parents will be contacted directly by LFHS. 
  • Mid-January to late February: Students with IEP's will have a transition meeting with personnel from LFHS and SOSM. LFHS will contact parents directly. 
     

Deerfield High School

  • October - November: Online Registration (OLR) 
    Families will complete online registration by providing demographic data, residency documentation, and home language information. 
  • January 10, 2025: Course Registration Video
    The Course Registration Video for Preview Night contains important registration information. The video link will be emailed to families by January 10, 2025. 
  • January 15, 2025: High School Preview Night
    During High School Preview Night, students and families will meet with department chairs, school counselors, and teachers to get their registration questions answered. 
  • Online Course Requests Open: After High School Preview Night, families will make course requests using Infinite Campus. When course registration opens, some course placements will be locked by the DHS academic department chairs. If families have questions or concerns regarding course placement, they will contact the academic department chair directly. For all other classes, families will select courses.
  • Tuesday, January 28, 2025: Registration Deadline for 8th Graders 
    Families must submit their final course requests by 3:30 pm.
  • Late January - early February Collaboration Meetings
    During collaboration meetings, members of the DHS Counseling Department meet with middle school principals and staff to exchange information on 8th graders who are not receiving special education services. Students with 504 plans will be discussed at this meeting. In preparation for the meeting, we will share an outline of topics.  All collaboration meetings will be held virtually. 
  • Spring: 504 Transition Meetings
    DHS 504 Coordinators meet with 8th grade families to review 504 plans for incoming freshmen. 
     

Vernon Hills High School

  • Entrance Exam: Vernon Hills High School will host the Pre-ACT8 on Saturday, October 26, 2024, for all incoming Class of 2029 freshmen who currently live in the District 128 and Vernon Hills High School Boundary. Please click here for the save-the-date flyer. Specific test information and logistics for the Pre-ACT8 will be shared in mid to late September. Libertyville High School

Continuing Your Catholic Education

We encourage all our students to continue their education at a local Catholic High School. Studies show that 85.2% of Catholic high school graduates will attend a 4-year college, compared to only 44% of public school students. Catholic High Schools also have a graduation rate of 99%.

Carmel Catholic High School

  • Entrance Exam - December 7, 2024, 8 a.m. - Noon. The Results will be used for admission to Carmel, initial course placements in math, science, and English, and merit scholarship consideration. The fee is $25. Registration will open in November.

Loyola Academy

  • Fall Admission Events: 
    • December 21, 2024. 3:00 p.m. VIP Girls’ Basketball Night
      Cheer on the Loyola Ramblers vs. Richwoods (Peoria) Knights. As VIP guests, the participants will enjoy a snack and reserved seating, meet the coach, and participate in the pre-game and post-game rituals. Be a part of an exciting afternoon of Rambler basketball! Check-in begins at 2:45 p.m. in the lobby of door 6 (north of the stadium), the event begins at 3:00 p.m., the game starts at 4:00 p.m., and pick-up is shortly after the game concludes. Registration fee is $25 and includes a ticket to the game, a snack, a cinch bag, and a girls' state championship t-shirt.
       
  • Entrance Exam - December 7, 2024 Students must take the exam at Loyola to be considered for admission to Loyola Academy.
