According to research, "Cognitive advantages follow from becoming bilingual. These cognitive advantages can contribute to a child's future academic success".  At the School of St. Mary, students are provided with the opportunity to learn Spanish and Latin. Students in grades K-3 begin learning Spanish, then as students enter fourth grade, they begin learning Latin as well. Each language is taught by a certified foreign language teacher twice per week. Going into 7th grade, students are given the choice of continuing with either Spanish or Latin. Students attend that foreign language class daily for both their 7th and 8th grade years.
